Shutter Care and Maintenance

Maintenance Schedule

We recommend roll down shutters be serviced every six months. For every day usage a custom service may be required. Accordion style shutters should be serviced at a minimum once a year.

Operate your shutter or screen with a full down and up every two weeks.

Always operate electric shutters away from any person and clear from objects such as furniture. Do follow the recommended service intervals.

Do not operate a poorly maintained shutter since this may cause damage to the motor and drive components.

3 Second Rule: If your electric shutter fails to operate after 3 seconds of activating a switch or remote stop use right away and contact our service team.
Painting: Always inspect shutters after your home is painted. Painters frequently push the bottom slat into the housing and out of track and often never insert the slat into the track correctly.

Improper pressure washing may harm your electric hurricane shutters and screens. Stay clear from the motor side. 

Inspection

A roll down type shutter should have a thorough part and component inspection completed during the scheduled service. Motor limit checkup. 



The best Shutter Services

Shutter Cleaning

Use a telescoping soft brush with a wash & wax soap. Do not use products containing chlorine or not for use on aluminum. Gently clean the exterior of the shutter. Inside shutter cleaning shall be performed by our service department. If pressure washing. Stay clear from electrical components and apply mild pressure. Spray or hand applied wax for UV protection is allowed.

Cleaning products
  • Meguires or Mothers car wash and wax soap
  • Shurhold 1960 Marine Mate Soft Brush
  • Simple Green for dirt and grime prior to wash and wax.
  • Meguires oxidation remover if needed after washing and before a wax is applied.

Lubrication

This is vital for roll type shutters

 Customers may apply lubrication to accordion shutter wheels, bushings, locking mechanism and blade interlock. Roll Down: Lubrication is applied to the slat locks and bearing. This will require removal of the access cover and shall be performed by our service department. Shutter getting “Noisy”? This will help! Customers may apply lubrication into the track between the service intervals. Remember this method does not oil the slat locks or idler bearing on roll down type shutters.

Wear and Tear 

Slat Hangers

The roll shutter type slat hanger connects the roll curtain to the drive reel (axle). Over time these hangers wear with the amount of usage. These are maintenance items and should be checked during service. 

Remote Control.

Most handheld transmitters use battery 2430. Wall mount use battery 2032. Carefully remove battery from holder and check model #. All remote transmitter programming to each shutter shall be performed by our technicians.
